Short answer: for steady volume, buy from a US wholesaler that sources from carriers, trade-in programs and insurance pools, and sells in mixed lots by model and grade. Marketplaces and liquidation pallets can work for a one-off flip, but they're hard to repeat week after week with the same quality.
I'm Matthew Leeb, Sales Director at V Distributors. We move around 10,000 used iPhones a week out of our warehouse to stores and resellers across the US and Latin America, with delivery in Miami. So yes, I'm biased. But the checklist below works no matter who you end up buying from.
Where to buy used iPhones in bulk in the USA: your four real options
1. Online marketplaces. Good for testing a market with 5 or 10 phones. The problem shows up when you scale: every seller grades differently, quantities are small, and you spend your week chasing listings instead of selling.
2. Liquidation and returns pallets. Cheap per unit, but you usually buy "as is". Expect a mix of working, locked and damaged phones, plus the time and parts to sort it out. That's a repair business, not a resale business.
3. Big B2B distributors. Solid for new devices and accessories, but many don't carry graded used iPhones in depth, or they want large accounts before they'll talk to you.
4. Used-phone wholesalers. This is where most stores end up. A real wholesaler buys from carriers and trade-in programs, runs every phone through diagnostics, sorts it by cosmetic grade and battery, and sells lots you can reorder. Our current stock is a fair picture of what one carries: as of October 29, 2026 we had over 6,000 iPhones checked in and ready to ship, including more than 600 iPhone 14 and 400+ iPhone 14 Pro Max. You can see the live counts (no prices) on our inventory page.
Where can I buy used iPhones in bulk without getting burned?
Whoever you buy from, ask these five questions before you send money. A good supplier answers all of them in writing in a couple of minutes.
- Is every phone tested, and with what? "Checked" means nothing. Ask for the tool. We test every unit on Phonecheck, which reports functions, battery health, parts and lock status.
- What exactly does each grade mean? Grade names are not standard across the industry. Get the definitions on paper. Ours: A+ is perfect, no signs of use, looks like new. A has 1 to 3 super small signs of use that are hard to see at normal viewing distance. AB has a super nice screen with no scratches and light scratches on the housing, about 3 to 6. BC has a good screen and visible wear on the housing, scrapes and dents included, and still works 100%. Grades are cosmetic only.
- What's the battery health? Battery is a separate question from the grade. Ask if the lot is 80%+ original, below 80%, or new replacement batteries (those show a non-genuine battery notice in iOS). Your customers care, so you should know before you buy.
- Are they unlocked and clean? You want unlocked phones, no iCloud lock and an IMEI list with the invoice so you can run your own checks.
- What happens if one doesn't work? Ours: a 45-day return for functional issues, you cover the shipping back to the warehouse, and the credit goes on your next order. Whatever the policy is, get it in writing before the first order.
Where to buy used iPhones wholesale for export to Latin America
A lot of our buyers are in Colombia, Paraguay, Argentina, Peru, Mexico and Central America, and most of them use the same setup: the supplier delivers the lot in Miami to the buyer's freight forwarder, and the forwarder ships it home and handles customs with a licensed broker.
Do it the formal way, always. That means a commercial invoice at the real value, the full IMEI list, a licensed freight forwarder and customs broker, IMEI registration or homologation where your country requires it, and paying every duty and tax (VAT/IVA included). Rules on used electronics change by country, and some countries restrict used goods imports entirely, so confirm with your customs broker before you buy, not after the lot lands. If anyone offers you a way around duties, walk away. It's not worth your business.
A typical first order, start to finish
Here's how a first order usually goes with us, which is roughly how it goes with any serious wholesaler:
- You message us on WhatsApp, tell us your market and what sells in your store, and get the daily price list.
- You pick models and grades. If it's your first order, start around 25 to 50 phones across two or three models you already know you can sell, instead of 200 of something "cheap".
- You pay by bank transfer or USDT. We don't take cards.
- We deliver to you or your forwarder in Miami with the invoice and IMEI list.
- You check the lot when it arrives and flag any functional issue within the 45 days.
Before you lock the order, run the numbers on our free profit calculator: purchase price, freight, your country's duties and taxes and your resale price, so you see the real margin per phone and not just the purchase price.
The mistake that costs first-time buyers the most
Buying the wrong grade for the store. We see it all the time: a shop with a premium, walk-in clientele buys BC because the price looks great, then spends a month discounting phones its customers didn't want. Or the reverse: a store that sells on price pays for A+ when AB would have sold just as fast. Match the grade to who walks into your store, and ask your supplier which grades their other buyers in your market reorder.
Second most common: ignoring freight and duties when comparing suppliers. A lot that's a few dollars cheaper per phone but ships from somewhere that adds days, extra handling or a worse customs process can end up costing more. Compare landed cost, not price.
Quick checklist
- Written grade definitions and battery tier for every line
- Diagnostic report tool named (Phonecheck or similar)
- Unlocked, no iCloud lock, IMEI list with the invoice
- Return policy in writing
- Delivery point that works with your forwarder
- Formal import plan confirmed with your customs broker
